I have been cutting up money since 1997. My currency collage practice has attempted to illuminate many themes including valuation, militarism, slavery, nationalism, and art history. The piece for this show is called Imaginary Prison, after Piranesi. It refers to the prison of the mind that money creates in us; that alters our perception of ourselves and others. It also references the prison industrial complex which has made a business out of incarceration.
