Nadege Monchera Baer

I was born and raised in France, I graduated as a painter from École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris. I received the Villa Medici prize, including a residency in Berlin.
After participating in the Art OMI program with a residency in New York, I moved to Los Angeles.

My work follows two intertwining threads; one abstract and the other figurative. Each informs the other, while the two threads sometimes merge and sometimes diverge. I work on paper and canvas, depending on the piece, with either paint, colored pencil or a combination. The ones that are predominately drawing use a very intricate hatching technique compiling layers of colors over colors using very tiny strokes, creating a modulating skin of color, density and form.
