Andreas Wolf

born 1965 in Heidelberg, lives as an artist and graphic designer in Berlin. He has been organising art spaces and exhibition projects together with artists and humanities scholars since 2006 and has been a member of the Finnish-German art space Toolbox since 2015. Together with Archi Galentz and Anna E. Wilkens, he runs the gallery Wolf & Galentz in Berlin Pankow.

In his non representational painting, Andreas Wolf is always concerned with the creation of complex pictorial structures: all elements of the picture should interact with all other elements as much as possible. The result is the apparent contradiction of an equilibrium full of tension. The pictures elude immediate comprehension, but on closer inspection open up a multitude of paths through the painting, as in a landscape.

The artist works on his large-format canvases in oil, acrylic and spray paint for a very long time, sometimes years; smaller works on paper in watercolour and gouache are created more quickly and playfully. His work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions at home and abroad.
