Edwin Dickman was born in Chicago in 1929 and grew up in New York. After studying philosophy at Harvard University for a short time, he began concentrating on theater and painting. While doing military service in the Navy, as a courier he visited nearly the whole world. In 1956 he had his first exhibition in New York, from 1956 he studied at Edinburgh Art Academy, from 1958 at the University of the Arts in Berlin, where he attended Ernst Fritsch’s master class. Dickman lives in Berlin Mitte.
Dickman had numerous solo exhibitions during the course of decades, mostly in Berlin.
