Anyone familiar with Joachim Pohl’s artistic work knows that it has been characterised by drawing, watercolour and occasionally woodcuts for more than fifty years. So this small special show of objects and constructive paintings created in the last two years, presented by Joachim Pohl’s gallery successors Wolf & Galentz, may come as a surprise. – Some ideas only come true after a long gestation period: when the artist bought a small farmhouse with a barn in the village of Grunewald near Templin in the mid-1970s, the farmer Willi sold everything, including the contents. And so Joachim Pohl found many an interesting relic of forged iron and turned wood in the workshop and shed, which challenged him to reshape them into artworks. He kept the found objects for decades until finally taking his time and concentrating on the unfamiliar found materials motivated the execution of the new shapes and figures. Striving towards greater abstraction, he created a number of constructive paintings in addition to the objects and assemblages.
